How We Eliminated Marina Bay’s Maintenance Headache With 0.3W In-ground WaterproofΒ  Stud Lights

Marina Bay is one of Singapore’s most recognisable landmarks, and our project was to replace the in-ground waterproof lights in itsΒ floating pontoon.

The floating pontoon at Marina Bay had existing in-ground lights powered by conventional wired drivers mountedΒ underneath the bridge structure.

Every time maintenance was required, engineers had toΒ board a boatΒ just to access the driver units.

It wasΒ costly, time-consuming, and operationally impracticalΒ at scale.

The client needed a better way that didn’t depend onΒ hard-to-reach infrastructureΒ and wouldn’t requireΒ specialist marine accessΒ for routine servicing.

After consultation with our M&E partner, we recommended replacing the existing wired in-ground lights withΒ solar-powered in-ground stud lights.

The initial concern was predictable: “Will solar lights be reliable enough? What happens on cloudy or rainy days?”

These lights operate on justΒ 0.3WΒ β€” an exceptionally low draw that means the onboard solar cells can sustainΒ full-night brightness even under overcast Singapore skies.

No grid connection. No cable runs. No driver boxesΒ mounted under a bridge.

Each unit isΒ entirely self-contained, charges during the day, and delivers consistent illumination through the night.

Since installation, the solar in-ground lights have been operational at Marina Bay since installation withΒ minimal interventionΒ required.

The project transformed a recurring operational headache into aΒ set-and-forgetΒ lighting system that contributes to Marina Bay’s night-time landscapeΒ without ongoing cost or complexity.
